PCD and stud pattern guide

What is PCD on wheels? PCD, or pitch circle diameter, is your stud pattern: how many studs your hub has, and the size of the circle they sit on. Here's how to read it, how to measure it, and which pattern your van uses.

Reading a stud pattern

What PCD actually means

A stud pattern is written as two numbers, for example 5x120. The first is how many studs or bolt holes your hub has. The second is the diameter, in millimetres, of the circle that runs through the centre of them. You'll also see it called the bolt pattern, lug pattern or bolt circle. They all mean the same thing.

PCD is set by the van, not the wheel. Every wheel is drilled to a specific pattern, and a wheel with the wrong PCD won't bolt on safely, however good it looks in a photo. Some Rogue wheels are drilled for two patterns, shown as 5x100/108.

Two patterns are often shortened. 5x114.3 is usually written 5x114, and 6x139.7 is usually written 6x139. Same pattern, same wheels.

The easy way: pick your van and we only show wheels in your stud pattern. There's nothing to measure unless you want to check.

Measuring

How to measure PCD on 4, 5 and 6 stud hubs

You need a tape measure or callipers, and to count the studs on your hub.

4-stud, edge to opposite edge
4 or 6 studs
Two studs sit directly opposite each other. Measure from the inside edge of one straight across to the outside edge of the one opposite. That distance is your PCD.
5-stud, centre to centre
5 studs, the quick way
Nothing sits directly opposite, so measure from the outside edge of one stud to the centre of the stud furthest from it. That gives you a close reading.
5-stud, centre to centre
5 studs, the exact way
Measure centre to centre between two neighbouring studs, then multiply by 1.7013. Five evenly spaced studs always sit in that ratio, so it works on any 5 stud hub.

Take a photo of the tape across your hub and email it to orders@roguealloy.co.uk. We'll confirm your stud pattern before anything ships.

Check the version

Same van name, different stud pattern

On these vans the model name alone doesn't tell you the stud pattern. Pick the right version when you choose your van, or choose "not sure" and we'll check.

  • Fiat Ducato, Citroen Relay and Peugeot Boxer: L1, L2 and L3 use 5x118 (Ducato, Relay, Boxer). Maxi Heavy L4 uses 5x130 (Ducato, Relay, Boxer).
  • Mercedes Sprinter: 2007 onwards uses 6x130 (wheels). Pre 2007 uses 5x130 (wheels). Twin rear wheel uses 6x205 (wheels).
  • VW Crafter: 2017 onwards uses 5x120 (wheels). Before 2017 uses 6x130 (wheels).
  • Ford Transit Custom: 2011 to 2023 uses 5x160 (wheels). 2024 onwards uses 6x120 (wheels).
  • VW Transporter: T5 to T6.1 uses 5x120 (wheels). T7 uses 6x120 (wheels).
  • Ford Ranger T6 is not a VW T6. Ford also calls Ranger generations T6, T7 and T8. The Ranger uses 6x139.7 (wheels), the VW Transporter T6 uses 5x120.

Beyond PCD

Stud pattern is one of four checks

A wheel that matches your PCD still has to pass three more checks before it goes on your van.

Centre bore. The hole in the middle of the wheel must match your hub, or be brought down to it with a spigot ring.

Offset. How far in or out the wheel sits under the arch. See the wheel offset guide.

Load rating. The wheel and tyre must carry your van's axle weights. We check this on every set.

PCD questions

What is PCD on wheels?

Pitch circle diameter: the diameter of the circle through the centre of your wheel studs. It's written with the number of studs first, so 5x120 is five studs on a 120 mm circle.

Is PCD the same as bolt pattern?

Yes. PCD, stud pattern, bolt pattern, lug pattern and bolt circle all mean the same thing.

How do I measure PCD on a 5 stud hub?

Measure from the outside edge of one stud to the centre of the stud furthest from it. For an exact figure, measure centre to centre between two neighbouring studs and multiply by 1.7013.

Do you check my stud pattern?

Yes. We check it against your van before anything ships, and on a Ducato, Relay or Boxer we may email you to confirm 5x118 or 5x130.

What is a dual-drilled wheel?

A wheel drilled for two stud patterns, shown as two figures, for example 5x100/108. It fits either.
